The following questions will be addressed: How did the world respond to the ideas
spread from the revolution? Were the ideas of the revolution picked up by the
nationalist movements in the Balkans and the MENA region vis-à-vis the Ottoman
Empire? What are the differences between the political systems and regimes crafted
after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire to that of the Soviet state? etc.

The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for scholars across the
disciplines to discuss the significance of this original impulse embodied in
Abraham, particularly vis-à-vis the divisive and exclusionary impulses that
otherwise get played out in both the historical and contemporary manifestations of
the three Abrahamic faiths.

(4th/10th‒8th/14th Centuries)",  Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies (IDEO),

Is it appropriate to use contemporary human sciences to study the texts of the
Arab-Islamic patrimony or should it be limited to the Ḥadīṯ? IDEO would like to
contribute to this debate by studying the emergence of the Ḥadīṯ as the authority of
knowledge in the Islamic sciences.

14. New Master's Programme on "Cultural Studies of the Middle East”, Universities of
Bamberg and Erlangen, Germany 

The new bilingual Elite Master’s Programme is being introduced in the 2017/18 winter
semester. It will focus on diversity and historical change in the cultures of the
Middle East. It is Germany’s first elite course of study in this field and an
opportunity for highly motivated students to prepare for their PhD and make an early
start for a professional career in an academic setting.

Unionism to Kemalism: Social and Political Transformation of Turkey”, Basel,

This workshop intends to shed light on specific historiographical questions emerging
from the interactions of political developments, demographic realities and social
mobilization in Turkey from the Unionist through the Kemalist era (1908-1945). By

viewpoints and paradigms relating to the general contours of Turkish history.
