1. Conference: "A New Wave of Populism in Europe and the Arab World", Leipzig, 3-5
October 2016
 
This conference, organized by the Transformation Working Group of the "Arab-German
Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities" (AGYA),  aims at bringing together
scholars from various disciplines who are interested in understanding forms and
manifestations of populist politics in either Europe or the Arab World. The
discussions will focus on how various institutions and groupings, including
political parties, parliaments, trade unions, religious communities, institutions of
higher education, media and civil society organizations are affected by populist
forms of politics, and how they can help to counter it. Travel expenses and
accommodation will be covered.

2. Two Workshops on "Urban Space and Refugees" in Istanbul, 27-28 October 2016, and

The lecture series aim to explore the impact of the so-called refugee crisis on
Berlin and Istanbul in a comparative perspective, keeping in mind the complex set of
linkages between these two metropolises. Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars
of anthropology, architecture, cultural studies, geography, history, international
relations, law, philosophy, political science, sociology and urban studies are
invited. Funds for travel expenses and accommodation are available.

Jagiellonian University, Krakow, 1- 3 December 2016
 
The International Development Department of University of Birmingham, the Institute
of Middle and Far East of Jagiellonian University and the European Association of
Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) are organizing the conference.
It will focus on the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Syria and a reassessment of
lessons from earlier interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

12. Policy Papers on "Youth and the Mediterranean: Exploring New Approaches to
Dialogue and Cooperation" for New-Med Research Network

The New-Med Research Network provides a platform for 8 young professionals to
present their ideas and contribute to the ongoing debates about conflict, security
and radicalisation with a view to proposing new ideas and approaches to re-launch
dialogue and cooperation in the Mediterranean region. Candidates should be under the
age of 32. Authors will  be invited to present their papers at a one-day
international conference in January 2017 in Rome.
