This conference will uncover Islamic theological traditions around peacebuilding,
historical precedents of peaceful existence with Muslims and contemporary lived
experiences of intra-faith and inter-cultural dialogue, improved societal
understanding of difference and peaceful relations. It will move the debate beyond
simplistic ‘good and bad’, ‘us and them’ binaries to more complex discussions that
consider the impact of diverse social factors including, gender, class, economy and
geography.

3. Workshop: “The Bible in Arabic in the 19th Century: What Challenges for
Christianity and Islam in the Middle East Societies since 1865?”, CNRS-GSRL, Paris,
26 May 2016
 
This International Workshop primarily intended to bring together researchers from
all disciplines, who worked on the Middle East in a perspective linking the history,
sociology and anthropology to this translation of the Bible into Arabic. We strongly
encourage junior researchers to apply.

with Prophet Muhammad – it welcomes all types of knowledge-bases in a

This conference takes as its central theme the notion of the “dangerous classes” and
invites abstracts examining its explanatory power when applied to the Middle East

12. 12 Research Fellows for the Research Partnership “The Maghreb in Transition.
Media, Knowledge & Power in Morocco and Tunisia”, German Academic Exchange Service

In February 2016, “the Maghreb in Transition” recruits twelve research fellows
(ideally, four PhD students or Postdoctoral researchers from each country) into its
two years project. Requirements are, among others: academic  degree  in the
 humanities,  legal or  social sciences (Licence  or  Master), Postdoc  or  
enrolment   as   a   PhD-student   at  a   German,   Moroccan   or   Tunisian
 university, good  oral  and  written  skills  in English  or French.

Change and Continuity”, Tunis, 28 August - 4 September 2016
 
The Summer Academy is designed to support scholarly networks and contribute to
closer ties between research activities in and outside Europe, the Middle East and
North Africa. It focuses on changing notions of ‘the political’ (in the broad sense
of the French term ‘le politique’), seeing it as part of transformative processes
and power struggles in the MENA region in recent years.

We are particularly interested in attracting young researchers in political science
