1. Conference: “Migration and Generation”, University of Innsbruck, Austria, 23-25
June 2016 
 
The conference will discuss the concept of generation in the context of migration,
and will also examine the use of the concept of generations in empirical research
and in public discourse. Likewise of central concern here is to view the phenomenon
of migration from an inter-generational perspective and to ask to what extent this
can contribute to a better understanding of migration.

2. Third International Conference: “Nazareth: Archaeology, History, Tourism,
Preservation and Cultural Heritage”, Nazareth, 2-4 August 2016 
 
The Municipality of Nazareth and the University of Haifa aim to bring together both
established and emerging scholars, in order to discuss potent issues of concern that
have their roots in the different historical periods. Panels include: Arts and
Archaeology; Architectural Preservation;  History; Cultural Heritage;  Religion;
Tourism; Urban Planning; Folklore. Travel and accommodation will be covered by the
Municipality of Nazareth.

We welcome contributions from policy making and practices, as well as from different
areas such as politics, architecture, urban studies, geography, history, social and
cultural sciences, engineering, economics, and management. The workshop aims to
attract papers which can be identified with one of the three areas: Urban Space,
Urban Politics, and Urban Society in the Arab Gulf region.

informed the cultural position, but did not necessarily impose a religious mandate
for action in the making and exchange of goods.

6. Symposium: “Moroccan Cinema Uncut: Local Perspectives, Transnational Dialogues”,
Arts and Humanities Research Council, Marrakech, 3-10 December 2016 
 
This international symposium seeks to tease out the various dimensions of Moroccan
cinema’s success as well as the challenges faced by Moroccan producers, directors,
distributors and policy-makers in the age of digital disruption. It will bring
together academics, cinema professionals, policy-makers, and critics. The exact

Practice in the Ottoman Empire, 15th-18th Centuries”, Boğaziçi University, Istanbul
 
We invite proposals for a two-year postdoctoral project exploring some aspect of
Islamic law in connection with the confessional politics of the early modern Ottoman
Empire. The applicant has a PhD degree in history, Islamic Studies, or a related
field, a good command of Ottoman Turkish and Arabic, and ideally at least another
relevant research language as well as written and spoken proficiency in English.

13. Articles on “Negotiating Gender Relations – Arab Women and the Transformation of
Arab Societies” for Special Issue of “GENDER. Journal for Gender, Culture and
Society”
 
This issue will focus on gender-political and feminist involvement of women in
various Arab contexts such as Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq and
Saudi-Arabia, thus providing insight into the specific conditions and concerns of
gender-political involvement. The thematic focus of such involvement will be
discussed with regard to legal, economic or religious aspects.
