4. Postgraduate Conference: “Rethinking Boundaries in the Study of Religion and Politics”, University of Aberdeen, 11-12 September 2015 

This conference will try to move beyond noting the empirical blurriness between the categories of religion, politics and the secular, and instead seek to examine the consequences of these boundaries by creating a space for interdisciplinary dialogue.

5. Colloque Tunis: « Le politique en terre d’Islam », Tunis, 7-10 Octobre 2015

En proposant ce colloque nous voudrions suivre de près l’évolution de la pensée politique en terre d’Islam. Comment les musulmans à travers les âges et dans les différentes aires ont  pensé la chose politique ? Le kalām était –il à l’origine des discussions ou débats politiques ? Quand est-ce que  le terme « siyāssa »    ou «  tadbīr » fut inventé ? Quand est-ce qu’on l’a utilisé comme équivalent du terme «  politique » ?

6. International Conference: “’With or Without the Brothers’. Domestic, Regional, International and Transnational, State and Sub-State Political Makeovers of the Islamist Scene (2013-2015)”, European Research Council, Paris, 29-30 October 2015

The object of this international conference by the WAFAW/ERC project will be to focus on the way Salafi and Jihadi groups are affected by the apparent marginalization of the Muslim Brotherhood. Contributors will be encouraged to propose case studies that deal with recent trends and interactions within the broad Islamist field.

9. International Symposium on Ottoman Intellectual Tradition: "Ottoman Kalam - Scholars, Works, and Problems", Istanbul, 25-26 December 2015

A goal of this symposium is to demonstrate the relevance of the Ottoman kalam tradition to contemporary problems in philosophy and science. In addition, work in this area is especially needed to shed new, critical light on dominant narratives in the history of Islamic law and theology, the history of religion, the history of philosophy and science, and other relevant disciplines.

12. Conference: “The Sciences of Islam, between Repetition and Innovation: What is Commenting in Islam?”, Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies, Cairo, 14-16 January 2016

This conference intends to continue the investigation begun at the 2012 Mellon Sawyer Seminar. We expect to add new fields and provide convincing examples which clarify issues and refine our understanding of the challenges faced by the transmission and interpretation of the Islamic sciences. We also seek to understand if there are historical constants in this matter.

13. Iran Graduate Student Workshop, Princeton University, 29-30 April 2016

The first workshop cohort will consist of PhD students that are near ABD status and preparing their dissertation proposals. This cohort will participate again in the second workshop, to be held in 2018. Applicants must focus on modern Iran, other countries of the Persianate world, or diasporas, or conduct relational histories and comparative work.

This is a part-time (0.5 fte), two-year replacement position, from Aug 2015 through July 2017. The History Department invites applications for a tenure-track position, specialization and period open. Ce numéro spécial de la revue est consacrée à la diaspora iranienne.
