This workshop aims at exploring the contribution of all religious and ethnic

3. Conference: “Islam and World Peace: Perspectives from African Muslim Nonviolence
Traditions”, Columbia University, 11-13 September 2015
 
Nowadays Islam is a growing source of suspicion and hostility in many societies
which is why it is urgent to learn from the legacies and teachings of nonviolent
Muslim leaders. The conference invites students of religion and Islam around the
world to engage in the genesis, diffusion and teachings of Islamic nonviolence
traditions of Sufi leaders and their interpretation of the concept of Jihad.

7. AATP Workshop (AATP): "Multiliteracies: Language, Culture, Communication and
Technology in Today's Persian Classroom", MESA, Denver, 21 November 2015 
 
The workshop of the American Association of Teachers of Persian aims to provide
teachers of Persian with cutting-edge research in the field of pedagogy and
includes a wide variety of topics such as innovative methods or techniques for
teaching the language and culture, corpus-based research, use of cutting-edge
technology, and web-based teaching materials. Both quantitative and qualitative
research is welcome.

The position will focus on the analysis of passages of Arabic Hadith- and
Quran-commentaries addressing pre-natal life for their citations-patterns within the
commentary literature including supervision of the data ingest (Scans, OCR, XML
etc.). Duration of the full position 1 Sept 2015 to 31 Aug 2020.

Le premier des chercheurs sera affecté à l’Institut de recherches et d’études sur le
monde arabe et musulman. Le second chercheur sera affecté au Centre de recherches
internationales. Une préférence sera accordée aux candidats ayant une expérience de
terrain et qui sont opérationnels dans les langues de travail du programme
(français, arabe et anglais).

13. Library Archival Research Fellowship at the Archives of Jafet Library, American
University of Beirut, 15 June - 21 August 2015   
 
The fellowship seeks to support the production of scholarly work around these
archives. The Research Fellow will be given access to the Library collections, as
well as a space to work, in addition to a stipend of 2,000 USD. For international
fellows, an additional stipend to cover the costs of travel will be provided.

14. Training Course: "Research in Arabic-based Area Studies”, SOAS, London, 6 July
2015 
 
The course is designed for MA areas studies, intensive Arabic language students and
first year PhD students intending to conduct research in the Arabic language. The
disciplined covered are language study, state-of-the-art library resources, history,
art and architecture, Islamic studies, and politics. Grants up to £250 are offered
to participants to cover travel and accommodation expenses.
