5. International Conference: "Transnational Relations of Anti-ultramontane Movements
in the Ottoman Empire and Western Europe in the Second Half of the 19th Century",

The conference will focus on the question, how a conflict originally between the
Armenian Catholics and Rom was expanded beyond the religious and national boundaries
and gained a transnational dimension in the 19th century. Target audience: Young

"Comparative Methods in Studying Religion and Society", American University of
Beirut, 25-26 April 2015

Researchers can propose papers for the focused topics or the broader theme tackling
broad theoretical/methodological issues that do not only aim critically at
transcending Orientalism/Euro-Centrism in the Muslim world but to delve into local
knowledge in order to identify novel strands in theory and methodology with their

Changes and Transitions", Ankara, 15-17 October 2015 

The Department of International Relations, Middle East Technical University, Ankara,
in association with the Skilliter Centre for Ottoman Studies, Newnham College,
University of Cambridge, is organizing this conference. Examining the period from
two major perspectives, state-society relations and city-society relations, this
conference aims to examine various aspects of social change, questioning how
societies adopted, adapted to, negotiated over or resisted changes imposed by
internal or external political actors.

The new portal contains the world’s largest digital collection of historical records
on the Gulf Arab states and Iran. It provides contextual material to make the best
use of the 500,000 digitised pages available. This includes 475,000 pages from the

13. Grants for 2-year Master Program in Public Administration,  School of Public
Policy at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary

Students from around the world including students from the Middle East are invited
to study Public Policy at this Master Program, which is accredited in the United
States. A wide range of financial aid packages are offered, which all students are
automatically considered for regardless nationality. The scholarships are on a merit
basis. In addition to this, a regional scholarship to residents or nationals from
any Middle East country/state is available.

14. Articles for Collective Book on "Food and Religion in Egypt and in the Ancient
Near East"

The purpose of the book that will be edited at the Ifao, is to determine the role of
food in religion – myths and ritual practices – as well as to try and define how
religion impose its mark on eating habits. Based on a comparative approach, it will
bring together case studies and synthesis works, which will include Egypt,
Mesopotamia, Anatolia and Levant, from the third millennium B.C. until late
Antiquity.
