Βερολίνο, 12-14/6/2013:
 "In Search for the Kingdom – Emerging Scholarship on Saudi Arabia: 
From the First Saudi State to the Present". 

The doctoral students from the Centre Modern Oriental Studies (ZMO) and the Berlin
Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies (BGSMCS) wish to bring together
researchers, who are in the process of writing their PhD-thesis or have recently
completed their dissertation, and explore topics settled in what is today the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Contemporary and historical perspectives from a large
variety of disciplines, including but not limited to History, Anthropology,
Religious Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Political Sciences, Literature, Sociology
and Arts are welcome. 
 
The organizers will provide partial funding for travel expenses of select
participants. The deadline for abstract submission is 1 December 2012.

Οξφόρδη, 15/12/2012: Sharia Law Workshop – Jurisprudential Foundations", International Institute for
Law.
 
This workshop highlights the foundations of the legal philosophy of Sharia Law. The
areas which will be covered include: 
-        Introduction including an account of the advent of the jurisprudence in the Muslim
world.
-        The text and its interpretation; this will delve into - among other things - the
denominational variations of the text as well as mythologies of legal construction.

-        The rationalisation, analogical extrapolation and application of rules.
-        The role of legal precedence 
-        Customary features of law
-        Interaction and coexistence with international legal instruments

This workshop is intended for those who wish to gain an elaborate and yet succinct
view of how law is made in Islam. The workshop encourages all to register

5. Senior Research Fellow at the College of Europe, Natolin Campus, Warsaw 

The College of Europe is seeking candidates for one full-time position of senior
research fellow, covering the southern dimension of the European Neighbourhood
Policy, with an expected starting date of 1 January 2013. The position forms part of
the Chair of European Neighbourhood Policy recently established at the Natolin
campus.
 
Requirements:  A Ph.D. preferably in international relations, political science,
law, economy or history;  A demonstrated interest in the field of European
Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), EU foreign policy making, and the southern Mediterranean
(Maghreb, Mashreq);  A proven track record of research and academic publications in
the field of the European Neighbourhood Policy and/or politics and economics in the
Maghreb and Mashreq;  A very good command of English and French (good knowledge of
other languages spoken in the southern neighbourhood desirable).

Under the supervision of the Chairholder, the post-holder will be responsible for:
The pursuit of research activities focusing on the southern dimension of the
European Neighbourhood Policy and leading to academic publications.
